A New Year’s Resolution You MUST Make

WordUp_Yellow.001

As we enter into 2013, many of us are making New Year’s resolutions and setting goals that we’d like to achieve in the next 12 months.

I would like to encourage you to include daily Bible reading to your list on New Year’s goals!

Jesus said in John 8:31-32, ‘…“If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”’

One thing we can see from Jesus’ words is that TRUE disciples (followers) of Jesus Christ “hold to His teachings”.  I would suggest that it’s difficult to hold to Christ’s teachings if you’re not in a regular habit of being in God’s Word.  It’s hard to hold to something that you don’t know much about!

Another lesson from Jesus’ words is that true freedom comes when we KNOW the truth.  And we grow in our knowledge of the truth as we grow in our understanding and application of God’s Word to our daily lives.

SO GET IN THE BIBLE IN 2013!

Let me give you a practical resource that will help you do this.  If you have a smartphone or a tablet, I highly recommend the free app “YouVersion”.  Inside this app you will find numerous reading plans that will help you spend time every day in God’s Word.  Whether you’re ready to tackle reading through the entire Bible in 2013 or need to start on more of a beginners pace, you’ll find a reading plan that is just right for you.

If you’d like to get into God’s Word more in 2013 I’d also invite you to join The RESCUE Church this coming weekend as we begin a new 4-part series called Word Up in which we’ll be encouraging people to get into the Bible for themselves and sharing practical teaching on how to do that.

May God bless you in 2013 and may you grow to know His Word more in the days ahead!
