***Sorry this is so late in getting out. We just got our internet up and running tonight. I will do a better job of keeping these posts coming now that we have access to wi-fi.***
I am happy to announce that in spite of many little issues and frustrations and setbacks, our team all safely arrived in Jamaica yesterday! We are thanking God for many answered prayers along the way.
We wasted no time in seeking death-defying adventure as we rented a van…to drive…on our own…in Jamaica…a van with a MANUAL transmission…and I was the fortunate soul chosen for the task of driving! One upside to driving in Jamaica is that I find myself talking to the Lord almost without stop! It can do wonders for a person’s prayer life!
Once again, God answered our prayers (and desperate cries) for safety and we arrived at the house we will be staying in for the next 7 days on the Montego Bay campus of the Caribbean Christian Center for the Deaf (CCCD).
After an amazing supper prepared by CCCD’s chef, our team got our first look at the apartment on campus that we plan to finish off and establish as The RESCUE Church’s Jamaica office. Although I am pleased to see how much work has gotten done on the construction of this building, there is still so much work that remains to be done. So we have our work cut out for us.
We ended the day by making a late-night run to the grocery store to buy about $300,000 worth of groceries. (This is where I can either make a joke about how much food it takes to feed 7 hungry Americans, or I can explain that it was $300,000 Jamaican (not US dollars). That translates to about $300 (US).
One major prayer request: The CCCD campus has been without water for the last 8 days now. Please pray that the water company would be able to fix a broken pump very soon that will allow water to flow to this part of the city once again!
Thank you for all your prayers. Please keep them coming! I can assure you that we are in great need of your prayer covering and support.
