The Sermon that Offended a RELIGIOUS Audience

In my last post I talked about how people who are under the influence of a spirit of RELIGION are often threatened and offended with biblical truth.  In this post I will give you just one example of what I’m talking about.  What you’re about to hear is the kind of thing that has earned me criticism, complaints, and even anonymous hate mail over the last seven years.

Let me set the stage for you:  This past summer our church was asked to conduct a community-wide worship service at Riverside Park Days, an annual community event full of fun, food, entertainment and many other festivities.  My assumption was that there would be a large crowd in attendance (which there was) with many people who needed to hear the truth.  Our praise band led in an awesome time of worship…and then I took the stage and delivered the following sermon:

I apologize for the poor quality of recording.  It was an outdoor service and we weren’t using our normal recording equipment.

It was reported to me that due to the offensive nature of that message The RESCUE Church will not be invited back to conduct any more community-wide worship services.  Sad.  But that is a perfect example of how the truth of Jesus Christ has the power to offend religious people.
These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.  They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.” – (Jesus) Matthew 15:8-9
So what say YOU?  If you’re offended by that message I strongly urge you to consider what it is about that message that sets you off.  I’d love to visit with you about it.  Seriously!  And if you believe that what you just heard is God’s truth then I would urge you to share it with everyone you know.  Time is running out!

Until next time…

1 Corinthians 1:23 “As for us, we proclaim the crucified Christ, a message that is offensive to the Jews and nonsense to the Gentiles;”

We can only go on telling truth Jon and if it offends, then it is the message that some would find offensive. I suppose the offense came in the calling of sin for what it is. Keep proclaiming TRUTH Brother!
